What Is Legal Ticketing? A Simple Definition

    September 14, 20264 min read

Legal ticketing (TLM) is software that turns every request sent to the legal department into a ticket: a centralized record that is qualified, assigned to a lawyer and tracked through to closure. No more requests scattered across emails, hallways and phone calls: everything lands in one place, nothing gets lost, and everyone knows where their matter stands.

    How does legal ticketing work?

The principle borrows from IT ticketing, adapted to the practice of law:

    • Centralized intake: every request (contract review, GDPR question, dispute, consultation) becomes a ticket, whatever the entry channel — email, portal or form.
    • Qualification and prioritization: the ticket is typed, assessed for urgency and assigned to the most relevant lawyer.
    • Work happens inside the ticket: drafting, approval workflows, electronic signature and documents are all handled within the ticket, without switching tools.
    • Closure and traceability: once resolved, the ticket is closed but remains searchable — the full history is preserved.

    Why legal departments adopt it

    • No more lost requests: every request has a number, a status and an owner.
    • Fewer follow-ups: business teams track the progress of their request on their own, without sending three emails.
    • Data-driven visibility: request volume, processing times, workload per lawyer — management becomes factual.
    • A single workspace: the lawyer drafts, gets approvals, signs and archives without juggling five tools.

Legal ticketing vs classic (IT) ticketing

IT ticketing tools (Jira, Zendesk…) are designed for incidents resolved in a few hours. A legal matter, on the other hand, lives on for weeks or months: drafting, negotiation, approval, signature, archiving. Legal ticketing therefore natively includes a document editor, approval workflows, electronic signature and document management — which sets it apart from a simple support tool.

    In short

Legal ticketing is the legal department's answer to scattered requests: a single point of entry, transparent tracking and measurable management of the team's activity. It is also the philosophy behind Juriview, the first TLM platform.
